The India leather export Commission (CLE) reported that 567 companies in India exported finished leather products.

Among the well-known companies are Mumbai Tata International Co., Ltd., India Model (India) Pvt. Ltd., Kanpur; super tanning Co., Ltd. (Super Tanners Ltd., Kanpur); the first leather manufacturing Co., Ltd.; Model; Trend Corp;

According to the committee's report, the total export of finished leather products in 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 were 567 million 100 thousand square feet, 650 million 700 thousand square feet) and 644 million 100 thousand square feet respectively.

In 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08, when the central value-added tax was not available, the rebate rate of finished leather products increased by 6.6%, 7.5% and 6.3% respectively. When the central value-added tax was available, the tax rebate rates were 1.6%, 1% and 1% respectively.

Since the purpose of the rebate rate is to return the tax collected at the production stage of the export commodities of India, the export commodities may apply for tax rebates according to this arrangement.
