In the first 3 months of 2008, British consumers spent 13 billion pounds on online shopping, up 50.5% from last year, according to the IMRG Capgemini retail sales index.

The total consumption figures represent that the amount spent online shopping in Britain is 213 pounds. During the Easter holidays alone, the total amount of online shopping in the UK is 850 million pounds, among which the most brilliant sales products are garments, shoes and accessories, which is 31% higher than that of the same period last year.

Anthoula Madden, vice president of Capgemini consultancy, says there is still room for growth in online sales, because shoppers can buy products in a more leisurely way in the Internet world, so online sales will continue to thrive, though they may not grow at the current rate.
