EU China Shoes

The European Commission is proposing to continue to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese shoes, triggering concerns about whether there will be a trade war between Europe and China.

Many analysts worry that if trade protectionism continues, a global trade war is likely to break out.

The EU's foreign trade agency is about to propose punitive anti-dumping duties on Chinese footwear products, the report said.

The news of foreign and industrial channels said that as a compromise, the new proposal would advocate punitive tariffs for 2 years instead of a regular 5 year period.

According to sources, in order to avoid a new round of trade war between the EU and China, the new proposal may exclude children's shoes and sports shoes from the scope of punitive taxation.

The European Commission initially proposed in 2006 to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese and Vietnamese shoes for a period of 2 years, 16.5% and 10% respectively.

The Vietnamese shoe will not be listed in the punitive tariffs; that is to say, the EU's anti-dumping duties on footwear will only target China.
