Obvious Export Of Garments

For some recent market participants, "external demand in Europe and America is not strong, and the rising labor costs will weaken China's exports."

Competitive power

"The worry is that 2 foreign bank economists said that the latest statistics show that the mainland's foreign trade performance has not been affected by the European debt crisis, while the upgrading of China's mainland and the improvement of productivity partly offset the cost increase.

pressure

The competitiveness of China's exports remains.

Liang Zhaoji, senior economist at DBS bank's economic research department, pointed out that in July and August, China's exports to Europe increased by 22.3% over the same period, which has surpassed the 16.6% growth over the same period in the second quarter of 2011.

He believed that the export demand, which was suppressed by the Japanese earthquake in 2011, was released, supporting the mainland of China.

foreign trade

Data show that China's exports and imports will increase by 23.8% and 25.6% respectively in the third quarter of 2011.

"Although the debt crisis in Europe has deteriorated since the beginning of May, the trade performance of mainland China has not been affected so far."

Liang Zhaoji said, "the potential positive surprise of foreign trade, coupled with the steady growth of investment, China's GDP growth in the third quarter is expected to reach 9.4%."

During the period from 2004 to 2009, the unit labor cost (ULC) of mainland China increased by 50% according to the US dollar per unit of output value, but overall, the situation of mainland China's export trade losing competitiveness did not appear, according to Cui Li, chief economist of the Royal Bank of China in Scotland.

She said that although labor costs continue to rise, China's global market share has risen from 7% in 2005 to 11% in 2010. The export of capital intensive industries is one of the important reasons. Electromechanical and pportation has become the largest export type in mainland China. In these areas, the impact of labor cost increase is relatively small.

Labor in mainland China

Intensive type

The dominant position of light industry has not been lost. In the past 5 years, the share of light industrial products in mainland China has increased from 22% to nearly 1/3 in the global market.

According to Cui Li, the reason for the increase in labor costs does not affect the export of light industrial products in mainland China. The reason is that Chinese enterprises are pushing the upgrading of products and the high-end movement to the value chain. In recent years, rapid market expansion has promoted the production efficiency of enterprises in mainland China, and the strong market share plus the upgraded product structure has made Chinese manufacturers at least have a certain pricing power in the short term.
