The ups and downs of mobile phone industry and brand are being staged in the automotive industry.

Compared with the current automobile circle, giants such as Toyota, Volkswagen and general motors are also labeled as traditional cars. On the road of intelligent automobile, a large number of new car enterprises and technology companies have poured in. From Tesla, apple, Google, to Huawei, Baidu, Xiaomi, didi and Xinjiang, all regard automobile as a strategic industry.

The new forces represented by Huawei and Tesla have the opportunity to become the real drivers of automobile intelligence. On the road of "making cars", enterprises have different strategies and routes. For example, Tesla is a "car group" and Huawei is a "car free group". Huawei does not build cars, but is positioned as an automobile supplier. The products involved include chips, computing platforms, operating systems, key components, ads automatic driving system, etc.

On April 19, Huawei intelligent election announced that it would sell cyrils new energy vehicles owned by Xiaokang shares.

What Huawei wants to do is not only the hardware required for cars, but also the brain of automobiles. Next, Huawei will become an automobile sales channel to help auto companies sell cars.

This is the first time since Huawei entered the automotive industry to focus on the achievements of cooperation and observe various actions. Industry insiders said that at the present stage, Huawei's strategy is to find partners suitable for the size, combine with the industry, conduct comprehensive learning and accumulation, and then enter the next stage to become bigger and stronger.

How much is the premium of Huawei brand

Science and technology enterprises will not miss the huge market of "new four modernizations" and new energy. There are many factions on the battlefield of intelligent vehicles, including traditional automobile enterprises, new forces of automobile manufacturing and Internet technology companies. To further subdivide, most of the technology enterprises without car manufacturing experience choose to build cars in groups with automobile manufacturers and become "car owners".

Huawei chose "no car" instead of building cars. Instead, it provided software and hardware for car companies in the "Huawei inside" (HI) mode. However, only models equipped with Huawei ads automatic driving system would have the "Hi" logo on the body. The hi version of Huawei alpha s is the first car equipped with Huawei's intelligent car solution. According to Huawei, the hi version of alpha s Huawei has realized the function of urban commuter automatic driving, and will be mass produced by the end of this year.

This means the deep cooperation between Huawei and automobile enterprises has begun. According to Xu Zhijun, Huawei's rotating chairman, Huawei is cooperating with SAIC, Changan and GAC. This time, SAIC and Huawei are the first to launch new products. In addition to the remarkable automatic driving function, Huawei also provides intelligent cockpit, intelligent electric, intelligent network connection, radar, computing platform and other component systems for the alpha s Huawei hi version.

Without Huawei solution, the starting price of polar fox alpha s is RMB 251900, and the maximum price is RMB 344900; the pre-sale price of basic version of Huawei hi version of extreme fox alpha s is RMB 388900, and the pre-sale price of advanced version is RMB 429900. This model positioning luxury, in the outside world, the price is also expensive.

Although Huawei is benchmarking Tesla, compared with new energy vehicles, the hi version of the polar fox alpha s Huawei is facing more than just Tesla. According to the data from the official websites, the price of Tesla equipped with enhanced automatic driving assistance function is 32000 yuan, and that of FSD with full automatic driving is 64000 yuan. Therefore, the price of model 3 high-performance version is 339900 yuan, and the price of automatic driving system is 371900-403900 yuan; and the price range of model y high-performance version is 377900 yuan, plus automatic driving function, the price range is 409900-441900 yuan. Both prices overlap with the hi version of alpha s Huawei.

If you look at Weilai, the price range of ec6 is 368000-468000 yuan, and the price range of ES6 is 358000-468000 yuan, which is also an option of 400000 yuan. Xiaopeng and the ideal price range are slightly lower, the price range of Xiaopeng P7 is 271900-322400 yuan, and the national retail price of ideal one model is 328000 yuan.

With the blessing of Huawei brand, the name of SAIC Jihu alpha is undoubtedly out of the circle. However, in the face of the first-line new energy brands, it remains to be seen whether sales can break through.

Automatic driving as standard

In the process of Huawei's overall presentation of automobile layout, automatic driving has become the focus of attention.

According to Huawei, with the help of Huawei ads high-level automatic driving full stack solution, in the urban commuting scene, the car realizes the whole scenic spot to point traffic covering urban area, high-speed and parking lot.

Compared with Tesla, alpha s and Huawei hi version, the whole vehicle is equipped with 3 laser radars, 6 millimeter wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 13 cameras. The number of environment sensing hardware is up to 34.

The standard hardware configuration of Tesla vehicle autopilot is: 8 cameras + 1 millimeter wave radar + 12 ultrasonic sensors. Tesla has always adhered to the pure visual identification technology route, and the common practice in the industry is to use cameras and lidar. The advantages of lidar are wide detection range and high detection accuracy, but the disadvantages are poor performance in extreme weather such as rain, snow and fog, and the amount of data collected is too large and the price is very expensive.

There has been a long debate on radar selection. According to Miao Lijing, general manager of Huawei's intelligent vehicle solution Bu fusion sensor Radar & camera product department, Huawei does both millimeter wave radar and laser radar. Automatic driving needs to be improved by multiple technologies. Lidar, camera and millimeter wave radar are an iron triangle. Wang Jun, President of Huawei's intelligent vehicle solution Bu, said in an interview: "the cost of lidar was very high and the industry could not afford to use it. Now it can basically reach the state of mass production. In the future, the price may be reduced to $500 or even $200."

In terms of computing power platform, the hi version of alpha s Huawei carries chips with computing power up to 400tops. Tesla has changed from the expensive NVIDIA chip to the self-developed chip, and the FSD hw3.0 computing power of model 3 is 144tops.

From the point of view of chip computing power, Tesla is not as good as Huawei, but the huge computing power also means higher cost. At the same time, it is necessary to combine the algorithm to see the final operation efficiency.

In terms of R & D investment, Huawei has started to study the automotive industry since 2012. Wang Jun said that Huawei will continue to increase its investment in the automotive industry. This year, its investment in R & D will reach US $1 billion, with an annual growth rate of about 30% in the future. The R & D team has more than 5000 people, including more than 2000 automatic driving teams. If we look at Tesla, its R & D investment will be US $1.343 billion in 2019 and will increase by 11% to US $1491 billion in 2020. By comparison, Huawei's investment in R & D of automobiles this year is on a par with Tesla's annual amount.

In fact, the automatic driving function, or more accurately, intelligent auxiliary driving function, has become the standard configuration of many new energy vehicles, no matter Tesla (autopilot), NiO (NiO) Pilot and xpilot have their own automatic driving assistance navigation systems, which are basically positioned at L2 level. Of course, there are differences in algorithms, hardware equipment, data accumulation and system maturity of each company. Traditional car companies have also developed automatic driving systems, but the overall strategy is conservative.

Commercial race

On the autopilot track, Tesla and waymo of Google represent the first two development models. Tesla built its own car at the beginning, integrated software and hardware, and evolved automatic driving from L1 and L2 to L4 and L5 levels step by step. Waymo has been aiming at L4 and L5 levels.

John krafik, a former waymo CEO who recently left, met Tesla directly at the beginning of the year: "Tesla is not a competitor of waymo, because Tesla is a driving aid system, not a driverless system." "It's amazing that Tesla's AI hardware and software are better than waymo's," Musk responded At present, Google is mainly testing operations in the United States, Tesla has launched in the world, and opened localization in China and other markets.

From the perspective of domestic manufacturers, new car makers tend to target Tesla, while Internet technology companies are developing different models. For example, baidu launched Apollo platform and announced its own car building. It is reported that at the Shanghai auto show, baidu senior vice president Li Zhenyu said that it is expected that the company will provide its Apollo automatic driving system to 1 million vehicles in the next three to five years; For example, Didi, as a travel giant, is itself a natural scene of robotaxi, and now it has its own advantages when it comes to making cars. Huawei, for example, has positioned itself as an incremental auto parts supplier, and has opened a new mode of cooperation with automobile enterprises. It has not only played the role of traditional Tier1 such as Bosch and mainland, but also the role of automatic driving platform and sales channel.

Let's look at a number of self driving start-ups, such as Xiaoma Zhixing, Wenyuan Zhixing, autox, etc., which are all aiming at L4 and L5 solutions. They have all joined the application scenarios of robotaxi. From 2020, some regions in Changsha, Guangzhou and Shanghai can call robotaxi with one click, and there are also start-ups entering truck and logistics scenarios, such as Tucson, which has just been listed.

At present, all domestic automatic driving enterprises have carried out unmanned driving test in urban areas. Baidu, Wenyuan Zhixing and autox have obtained the full unmanned test license issued by California motor vehicle administration (DMV), which can conduct unmanned test on open roads in San Jose, California, without the need for safety officers. In the view of the industry, removing the safety officer is the real L4 level unmanned driving. Waymo, cruise, Baidu, Wenyuan Zhixing and autox are all trying to "kill the safety officer".

Traditional car companies are also joining the automatic driving battlefield through investment, acquisition, cooperation and other modes.

At present, according to the disclosed road test videos, the technical reserves of first-line enterprises are basically mature, and the automatic driving technology of various enterprises has the problem of homogeneous competition. In the future, we need to compete with each other in terms of business model, capital scale and vision.
